INRS University

INRS is a university dedicated to fundamental and applied research, graduate studies and the training of researchers in its four research Centres in Quebec City, Laval, Montreal and Varennes. Part of the Université du Québec network, INRS University ranks first in Canada in terms of research intensity (funding per faculty member).

ALLS (Advanced Laser Light Source)

ALLS/LSF (Advanced Laser Light Source/ Laboratoire de Sources Femtosecondes) is a unique infrastructure of international caliber located at the Varennes campus of INRS-EMT (20 minutes south-east of Montreal), where users can find a variety of intense ultrafast laser sources. This large national laboratory for laser science was financed through the “International Joint Ventures Fund” program of the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI) with an investment of 20.95M$. With the powerful lasers at the ALLS lab a series of new ultrafast light sources for revolutionary applications has been developed.

JASLab is a partnered undertaking between the University of Ottawa (uOttawa) and the National Research Council of Canada’s Steacie Institute for Molecular Sciences (NRC-SIMS).

Plasma-Québec is a strategic network in plasma science and applications. Unique in Canada, it aims to pursue advanced research in domains where the plasma is central.

Center for Optics, Photonics and Lasers (COPL)

The Center for Optics, Photonics and Lasers (COPL) is a strategic cluster of optics/photonics researchers from Université Laval, École Polytechnique de Montréal, McGill, INRS, École de technologie supérieure, Université de Sherbrooke, Université du Québec à Montréal and Concordia University who share the following objectives:

  • to train graduate students and post-docs who will form the next generation of optics/photonics scientists
  • to perform fundamental and applied research
  • to contribute to socio-economic development by supporting industry.

UltraFast Innovations

UltraFast Innovations provides customized premium ultrafast optics and devices. Many years of know-how in optics design and manufacturing allow us to implement latest research results into novel optics solutions. Our optics can be found in the laser sources of most major femtosecond OEM manufacturers. Our optics portfolio features: Ultra-broadband mirrors for pulse compression down to sub-4 femtoseconds, highly dispersive and high-reflectance mirrors. We also provide specialized diagnostic and instrumentation for ultrafast applications.

Amplitude Technologies

Amplitude mission is to produce robust and reliable, intense femtosecond laser systems with the best performances in accordance with temporal and spatial beam quality. With know-how and dedicated R&D in Yb-based diode-pumped technology, Ti:Sapphire-based high power systems, Amplitude provides laser systems dedicated to ultrafast science experiments with unique characteristics (high power CEP-stabilized laser pulses, ultra-short pulse duration at high energy (down to 15 fs), high repetition rate high power laser sources…).

SourceLAB is dedicated to providing a quicker access to essential tools for research in laser-plasma interaction at ultra-high intensities as well as in energetic radiation and particle sources.  Spin-off of the Laboratoire d’Optique Appliquée (LOA) in Paris, SourceLAB has developed a top-level expertise in ultra-high intensity laser design and laser-plasma interaction experiments.

Fastlite designs, manufatures and commercializes high end instruments (Dazzler, Wizzler, DazScope, Mozza, Grisms, pulse optimization loop, CEP loop) for the scientific community designing or using high-end high performances femtosecond lasers. Fastlite also designs and manufactures Ytterbium pumped, MIR OPCPA, with unequaled performances.

Velocitas VMI

With rapid advances in charged particle detection and laser technology in recent years, velocity map imaging is becoming an even more popular technique in research laboratories worldwide. To support this developing market, we have collaborated with internationally renowned physical chemists and laser physicists to develop a range of VMI instrumentation and accessories to provide advanced VMI capabilities in various research laboratories.

few-cycle Inc.

few-cycle Inc. is a young Canadian spin-off company developing optical technologies for ultrafast laser science. Our aim is to redefine optical parametric amplification through the protected FOPA technology. We also offer unique complementary femtosecond laser upgrades based on adaptable hollow-core fiber systems for pulse compression and other novel optical systems.

Active Fiber Systems GmbH (AFS)

Active Fiber Systems GmbH (AFS) is located in Jena, known as ‘city of photonics’ in Germany. As a spin-off company from both the Fraunhofer IOF Jena and the Institute of Applied Physics at the University of Jena, AFS represents the expertise of innovative solid-state laser development. It is our mission to transfer groundbreaking experimental results to reliable laser systems suitable for scientific and industrial applications. Among the remarkable features of AFS’s pulsed fiber lasers are their compact dimensions, considerably reduced production costs as well as flexible and outstanding laser parameters. For example, our record-average-power high-energy few-cycle lasers are ideal sources for the generation of high-harmonic radiation and attosecond pulses.

As the world’s preeminent ultrafast lasers company, Spectra-Physics, with the recent acquisition of Femtolasers, extends its leadership in ultrafast lasers for scientific research. Today, with the latest sealed few-cycle pulse oscillator Rainbow 2 CEP4, the Femtopower amplifier and the Kaleidoscope compressor, Spectra-Physics is the only commercial company capable of delivering state-of-the-art complete ultrafast laser systems suitable for isolated attosecond pulse generation.
